Japan vows to speed up aid delivery for Ukraine after Russian attacks
(MENAFN) Japan has agreed to speed up the delivery of its previously pledged assistance to help Ukraine rebuild its energy sector, according to statements following a meeting between Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk and Japanese officials.
"Today [on October 13], during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, Masashi Nakagome, and colleagues from the JICA Office in Ukraine, I spoke about the consequences of the recent attacks and the ongoing work to restore infrastructure. I emphasized that our current priority is to rapidly build up equipment reserves and protect energy facilities. We agreed to accelerate the delivery of Japan's previously planned assistance for Ukraine's energy sector. We also discussed involving Japanese companies in cooperation," Hrynchuk wrote.
The minister noted that Japan’s continued support has been crucial in enabling Ukrainian technicians to swiftly repair critical infrastructure and maintain power supplies. The aid includes specialized tools, repair vehicles, and materials for restoring transmission and distribution networks, as well as emergency reconstruction efforts in major cities such as Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson.
According to reports, representatives from G7 countries recently met with Hrynchuk and Ukrainian energy companies to assess the country’s most urgent needs following renewed Russian missile and drone strikes targeting energy facilities.
