Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang Attends the Handover Ceremony of the China-aided Borehole Drilling and Water Supply Project

On August 5, 2026, the Handover Ceremony of the China-aided Borehole Drilling and Water Supply Project in South Sudan was held in Juba. H.E. Amb. Ma Qiang attended the event and addressed the attendees together with Hon. James Mawich Makuach, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Hon. Sultan Lam Tungwar Kueigwong, Undersecretary of the Ministry.

H.E. Amb. MA Qiang emphasized that the Project has delivered 47 boreholes across multiple regions in Central Equatoria State and Lakes State of South Sudan, providing local communities with direct access to safe and clean drinking water.This will not only effectively reduce waterborne diseases, but also support livestock production and community development. It is hoped that the communities will cherish these boreholes and the auxiliary facilities to ensure the long-term and stable operation of these boreholes. Looking ahead, China will continue to deepen the cooperation with South Sudan in energy, infrastructure, agriculture, education, public health and other sectors.

Under the witness of the attendees, Amb. MA Qiang and Hon. Sultan Lam Tungwar Kueigwong jointly signed the Handover Certificate.
